Hi there! |
My name is Caitlyn, Welcome to my website and blog! I have defined myself as a competitive runner for most of my life, but in 2015, after the birth of my first daughter, I ran PRs in discances ranging from the 6k to the marathon. I had some validation that with my PR's in lower distances, I could maybe lower my marathon to the 2:45 standard required to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Trials. Growing my family was top priority, so I got to work on the OTQ right after my second child in 2017.... But nothing ever really got going. Injury after Injury after injury. I worked on fixing all of it but nothing really helped! I finally had a CTA from my abdominal aorta to my feet, and while I hoped to find something surgical so I could get back to running, I discovered I had developed a rare disease called Fibromuscular Dysplasia that has no cure. It's a narrowing of arteries to many of my organs, including my brain, spleen, and kidneys... but also I found I had them on my illiac artiers which supply the blood to your legs, hence the injuries!
I blogged a lot of my training prior to the diagnosis, and am reviving my blog so that if someone else finds themselves being diagnosed with FMD maybe my journey can help them navigate it all. |
